Its time to elect Frank Jewell
I’ve called Duluth home for over 35 years. Its
here that I have raised my family and created
deep roots to family, friends, and the
beautiful Duluth community. I have been married for 30 years to my wife Kathleen and been a father for 28. It’s my family that inspired me to take my current job, as Executive Director of Men as Peacemakers (MAP).
Since its inception in 2000, Men As Peacemakers has grown to manage one of the largest in-school mentoring programs in Minnesota, providing over 450 local children with positive role models. Men As Peacemakers also provides restorative justice services for juveniles and works to engage men in the prevention of sexual and domestic violence.
Previously, I worked as the Violence Prevention Specialist for St. Louis County and have held a number of human service jobs working with adolescents, the mentally ill and the elderly. In 2000, at the age of 50, I earned my humanities degree from the College of St. Scholastica. Working as a non-profit manager has taught how to pinch pennies and still get things done.
From 1987 to 1991 I was a Duluth City Councilor
representing the Third District. I have also served as a
board member on a variety of community organizations
as diverse as the Duluth Art Institute, a theater group and a neighborhood organization that worked to
empower low income residents. I am most proud of my
volunteer work in the development and funding
of low- income housing with Center City Housing and
the Local Initiatives Support Corporation.
As a teenager I realized that people who work together can create great change. To truly make a difference in a community citizens need to step forward and participate in the process. I have been actively involved in public and community service in the Duluth community for over 35 years. It is this committment to serve my community that guides me in running for County Board.
I have also helped build numerous collaborative partnerships between organizations and institutions and have worked extensively in group facilitation, training, and non-profit management. True collaboration is a thoughful process that encourages and supports diverse approaches to accomplishing a task. I have come to understand its value while working with community groups across the state and believe that this committment o collaboration will make a huge differnce
